Sorrento’s old centre is full of charm with its beautiful Renaissance and Baroque architecture and pretty Italian squares. You can explore the city on a horse drawn carriage that wait to take visitors around on Piazza Tasso or stroll leisurely along Sorrento’s narrow streets. Explore the Il Duomo, the main cathedral of Sorrento with a beautiful clock tower and opulent interior. Do not miss the Monastery of San Francesco with its spectacular baroque church and the ornate cloister, which during summer time is used for art exhibitions and concerts. The nearby Park of Villa communale boasts majestic views of the Gulf of Naples with the volcano Vesuvius. Another picturesque place in Sorrento is the busy harbour, Marina Grande. Some time ago, wooden boats were made here. Today it is full of tourist and fishing boats. As the sun goes down you can still see fishermen cleaning their nets and talking about their catch, just like in old days.

Sorrento is a great base for a honeymoon in Italy as you can use it as a base for exploring the historic Pompeii, Greek Temples of Paestum, the quaint island of Ischia and the elegant Capri, which is only a 20-minute ferry ride away.

Sorrento is famous for its lemons, traditional lemon liquor limoncello and delicious cuisine. For fine dining head to the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria in the heart of town. Surrounded by antiques and Edwardian splendor you will feel and eat like a royal. The hotel’s Michelin starred restaurant Terrazza Bosquet offers gourmet menu with breathtaking vistas over the sea. Make sure you dress appropriately, as sport shoes and shorts are not permitted in this sophisticated establishment. For a casual tasty plate of sauteed mussels and fresh seafood fry-ups follow the locals to the Trattoria Da Emilia (Via Marina Grande 92) or Trattoria Chantecler (Via Santa Maria della Pietà, 38).
