Taormina and Mt. Etna
You will be met at the Catania port by your private driver and car or minivan. Your excursion begins with Taormina, built by the Greeks in the 3rd century B.C. and later taken over by the Romans. The centre piece of this charming town is the Greco Roman amphitheatre with its breath taking position overlooking the Bay of Naxos and the imposing Mt. Etna in the distance. Your tour of Taormina will also include a tour to the city centre with its main street, Corso Umberto lined with former mansions decorated with flower filled balconies. You will enjoy Taormina, a photographer’s paradise!Then its off on a scenic drive through vineyards, citrus groves and villages towards Mt. Etna. This imposing volcano is Europe’s largest and is still active. On the slopes of the Volcano, you will enjoy the panoramic view of Catania. The city was devastated by the Volcano 300 years ago. You will walk around the Crateri Silvestri, created by the lava flow of the 1983 eruption. These small craters are set amid barefields of gray lava that stretch for miles.After the tour you will be transferred back to your ship in Catania.
