Saint Peter's Basilica This most famous sculpture by Michelangelo was created when he was only 24. Its beauty and life like gracefullness create much emotion in all that view it up close.

Central Altar St. Peter's Basilica The Papal altar in Saint Peter's Basilica is its center and it is quite overwhelming. This is where the Pope celebrates masses. The altar was consecrated in 1594 by Pope Clement VIII. The canopy above it is the work of Bernini. It stands 95ft in height. Below the Altar is the tomb of St. Peter.

Sistine Chapel The Sistine Chapel is the rock star of the Vatican Museum. This amazing work turned 500 years old last year. It<br/> was created by the then up and coming artist Michelangelo. He was first commissioned to repaint the chapel in 1508<br/> by Pope Julius II della Rovere. He finished in 1512. Later he was commissioned to paint the Last Judgment<br/> in 1535 by Pope Paul III Farnese. There are many stories about the trials and tribulation that Michelangelo <br/>endured as he painted this chapel. He left several scandalous symbols hidden in the work which represented his <br/>discontent. Watch for them when you visit the Chapel.
