Located in Bomarzo at one hours from Rome the Park of the Monsters is a perfect excursion for who is travelling with kids.
The park of the Monsters (Parco dei Mostri) also named the Sacred Wood (Sacro Bosco) is located in Bormarzo in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio.
It was created in the 16th century by the prince Pier Francesco Orsini. In fact the popular imagination renamed the Garden of Bormarzo the Park of the Monsters according to its bizarre and fascinating sculptures. After Orsini died, the park was abandoned for many years, then someone decide to save and restore it and it is now well appreciated by artists and tourists who come from all over the world to visit it.The rumor says that the garden is haunted by the Orsini family. Go for a walk in this strange garden and visit the leaning house, meet the dragon or the elephant, come inside the monster head through its mouth (known as “the mouth of hell”), discover the beauty sleeping in the wood or the beast with its two heads and finally meditate about this mysterious park.
